common mistakes when exercising

Everyone at some point has made exercise mistakes but you don’t need to lose hope because we are here to help. There are people who take exercise really serious and want to make sure they are doing everything right. And there are others that just go along with the flow wanting nothing more than to get a good workout routine going and avoiding injury. No matter if you fit in one of these categories or somewhere in between you will find this informative guide extremely helpful.

Most people make at least one of these common mistakes when exercising. Avoid these common mistakes to avoid injury and get better results.

Not warming up

Exercising without a proper warm-up can actually be more harmful than not exercising at all. A quick warm-up of five to 10 minutes will raise your core body temperature and blood flow, preparing you for activity. You'll burn more calories and reduce the chance of injuries during your workout. A warm-up also helps you mentally prepare for your workout, making you feel more energized during exercise.

Holding your breath

When lifting weights or doing any strenuous activity, it's important to breathe continuously and evenly to maintain oxygen levels in your blood. Holding your breath can temporarily lower the amount of oxygen in the blood stream, causing lightheadedness and even fainting. Make sure to breathe normally throughout your workout and keep a steady pace.

Overdoing it

You may find it difficult to motivate yourself to start exercising, but once you get going, it's easy to overdo it. The result: an injury that sidelines you for weeks or months. Take things slow at first and gradually increase your intensity as your body adjusts.

Lack of variety

Doing the same exercises over and over again can make your workouts boring and may also cause overuse injuries. Keep things fresh by changing up your workout routine every few weeks. You can change which muscles you are working out on different days or add new exercises that work the same muscles in a different way.

Not eating enough

Your body needs fuel before and after a workout in order to perform at its best. Eat a healthy snack before exercising, especially if it has been three or more hours since your last meal. After a challenging workout, refuel within 30 minutes with a combination of protein and carbohydrates to help rebuild muscle tissue and restore glycogen levels in your liver.

And finally:

Exercising without a plan

Going to the gym without a plan is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Before every workout, you should know what exercises you're going to do, how many reps and sets you want to complete, and what weight you're going to use. This will not only help you reach your goals faster, but it will also give your workouts more purpose instead of just going through the motions.

By analyzing your workout routine, you can determine where you’ve gone wrong and pinpoint problems that need to be addressed immediately. By avoiding these common mistakes as you exercise, you put yourself on the right track to a healthier lifestyle and better health.
